Photographer James Appleton has created a series of stunning photos of an erupting volcano, called Eyjafjallajökull, in Iceland.
Eyjafjallajökull is not a name that someone can remember with ease. It is difficult to pronounce and to spell, but a lot of people are actually aware of this volcano due to its 2010 eruptions which have caused the air travel to be suspended in 20 European countries.
Thousands of people have been affected by the air space closing, though the traffic has been restricted for less than a week. As things cooled down and the air space has been reopened, a lot of photographers have seen this as an opportunity to capture the images of their lifetimes.
Photographer James Appleton witnesses the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption, captures mesmerizing photos
Going near an erupting volcano is not something that anybody can do as the conditions tend to get pretty harsh. However, photographer James Appleton was familiar with the surroundings, having traveled to Iceland in the past, so he decided to grab his gear and pay the Fimmvörðuháls mountain pass a visit.
Iceland is one of the most beautiful countries on Earth with amazing landscapes combined with the popular northern lights. The results of his Icelandic trip are enchanting images of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption.
“I was physically and mentally exhausted, but these are the greatest photographs I had ever taken”
James Appleton was confident that we would be able to get by just fine because he had made several trips to this beautiful country before. The conditions were pretty adverse, due to the fact that the winter was in full swing and the volcano was obviously erupting.
The photographer is a firm believer that people should take risks in life, as the bigger the gamble, the greater the rewards. His trip to the Eyjafjallajökull volcano has lasted five days, but every second of it was worthwhile.
He recalls that he arrived at home “physically and mentally exhausted”, but with a big smile on his face, thanks to what he calls the “greatest photographs I had ever taken”.
Eyjafjallajökull volcano has put on a show of otherworldly colors
The colors in the Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption photos are simply otherworldly. Each and every photographer should travel at least once to Iceland and capture the sheer beauty of this country.
James Appleton is right when saying that the risk was worth taking and we can only congratulate the lensman while delving comfortably into the images.
The entire collection is available at the photographer’s website, but you should be prepared for an amazement-galore. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
