Rollei announced a new compact superzoom camera that comes packed with interesting features for the low-entry segment.
Rollei is a company which dates back to 1920. It was founded in the Lower Saxony by two German folks who were selling optical equipment to the early fans of photography. Although in recent years it was dormant, the German company released the Powerflex 240 HD with an aggressive price tag.
The Rollei Powerflex 240 HD camera sports a 16-megapixel sensor with 24x optical zoom, a Sony-manufactured 1/2.3″ CCD lens, f/3.0-6.9 aperture, 720p HD video recording at 30 frames per second, 40 shooting modes, USB connectivity, Optical Image Stabilizer technology, and a 3-inch 460K-dot LCD screen.
This camera features a lens which provides a focal length range equivalent to 25-600mm, however, the super-macro technique takes amazing close-up shots from a distance of just two centimeters, says the company. Rollei’s latest superzoom shooter also features an internal microphone along with a built-in speaker.
A focal length technology has been added to the superzoom camera in order to maintain video recording at high quality. Shutter speed can be automatically or manually adjusted along with white balance. Fish-eye and night mode can be found among the aforementioned 40 shooting modes.
Rollei’s official spec sheet also confirms the presence of a Lithium-ion battery that handles 29 minutes of 720p HD video capturing on a single charge. The battery can be recharged using the USB mini port, noting that Apple’s USB adapter is compatible with the Powerflex 240 HD camera.
Memory card slots are supported by this compact camera as it follows:
- up to 4GB for SD cards;
- up to 32GB for SDHC cards;
- up to 64GB for SDXC cards.

The Rollei Powerflex 240 HD has been scheduled for a mid-January release date, while the price tag has been set at €149.95. Black and white will be the two confirmed colors, as there are no mentions of other flavors in the press release.
