Nikon has officially announced the 1 V3 mirrorless camera, which takes the top spot of the CX-mount line-up from the 1 V2 with new and amazing features.
As expected and predicted by the rumor mill, the Nikon 1 V3 mirrorless camera has been introduced. It comes packed with brand new features that are designed to make no compromises in image quality, speed, and functionality.
The new 1-series V3 camera sports the fastest continuous shooting mode in the world when it comes to mirrorless interchangeable lens systems, Nikon says. A Hybrid AF system is in place, adding Phase Detection AF beside the usual Contrast Detection AF system commonly-found in MILCs.
Nikon 1 V3 announced with world’s fastest continuous shooting mode frame rate
In order to prove that it does not want to sacrifice anything, Nikon has added a brand new 18.4-megapixel 1-inch-type image sensor to the Nikon 1 V3 without an anti-aliasing filter to provide maximum image sharpness.
The device is powered by the Expeed 4A image processor and it is capable of recording up to 20fps in continuous shooting mode with continuous AF turned on.
Moreover, the world’s fastest continuous shooting camera takes 60fps with single AF, so this could prove to be a great camera for sports photographers.
Its specs list continues with built-in WiFi, allowing you to transfer photos and videos to a smartphone or tablet instantly. Speaking of which, there is no 4K video recording support therefore the 1920 x 1080 at 60fps quality is the best you get.
Nikon takes the electronic viewfinder out of the 1 V series, decides to focus on speed
Nikon 1 V3 captures RAW photos with an ISO range between 160 and 12,800. A tilting 3-inch 1,037k-dot LCD touchscreen is on the back of the camera, allowing users to take advantage of the 171 focus points.
The new design of the 1-series means that the camera is somewhat smaller and lighter, but it loses the built-in electronic viewfinder. This could be a major downside, especially considering the fact that the 1 V3 is the best mirrorless camera in Nikon’s line-up.
A hot shoe is available, so that users can mount an electronic viewfinder to better compose their shots. Unfortunately, it is not free and it will turn the 1 V3 into an expensive camera.
The camera’s shutter speed will range between 1/16000th of a second and 30 seconds. The maximum speed is pretty impressive and will definitely help you capture even the fastest objects passing right in front of you.
Nikon 1 V3 release date is April 2014 for $1,199.95 with numerous accessories
The new 1-series MILC measures 4.37 x 2.56 x 1.3-inches and weighs 13.44 ounces. It offers USB 2.0 and mini-HDMI ports, while photos are stored on a SD / SDHC / SDXC card.
A nice trick that the Nikon 1 V3 is capable of consists of a high-speed 1280 x 720 mode that supports a 120fps frame rate. Take the resolution down to 768 x 288 pixels and the frame rate reaches 400fps. Still not enough? Then take the resolution down to 416 x 144 pixels in order to capture 1200fps movies.
Nikon will begin selling the device in April 2014 for a price of $1,199.95. At this price, buyers will get an extra grip with a control dial, a shutter button, and a customizable button. Furthermore, the package includes the new 10-30mm PD lens, and the aforementioned electronic viewfinder.
Europeans are luckier, as they can purchase the body-only version for €849 or a 10-30mm PD lens kit for €949.
