Ricoh has revealed a new lens for Pentax 645-series medium format cameras in the body of the HD DA 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR wide-angle zoom lens.
The second Ricoh announcement of the day consists of another Pentax-branded product. After introducing the Pentax Q-S1 mirrorless camera, the company has also unveiled the Pentax HD DA 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR lens for medium format cameras.

This new wide-angle zoom optic has been leaked along with the Q-S1 mirrorless camera. The sources have said multiple times that the two products will become official sometime in the near future.
Well, the launch event has not been delayed for very long, so the Pentax HD DA 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR lens has become official for the company’s 645-series cameras with medium format image sensors.
The lens will provide a 35mm focal length equivalent of 22-35.5mm, thus falling in the wide-angle category.
This optic offers a very high image quality to meet the medium format demands
Pentax HD DA 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR lens features an internal design that consists of 17 elements in 12 groups with a couple of aspherical elements. The construction also includes two ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) elements, so that the lens provides a very high image quality.
Light transmission is ensured by multi-layer HD coatings, which are also meant to reduce reflections. Additionally, the optic comes with Aero Bright Coating that will also improve the quality of the image.
The optic features built-in Shake Reduction technology that offers up to 3.5 stops of extra light. Camera shakes are minimized in order to prevent blur from appearing in the photos.

Ricoh has confirmed that the new HD DA 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR lens is weathersealed. There are 11 seals that will not allow dust and water to get into your gear.
Additionally, the product is made out of durable materials, so photographers will not have to worry about spending extended period of times in harsher environments.
The company has also been pleased to see that the 51.4-megapixel Pentax 645Z medium format camera has been quickly adopted by the photographers, so we should expect Ricoh to continue supporting the system for a long time.
