Sigma has announced a new Sports series lens in the body of the 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM telephoto zoom, which will be released soon in Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts.
After keeping itself really quiet during the past few weeks, Sigma has decided to introduce a new lens to the public. The product will be added to the “Sports” series and it comes with weathersealing.
It is called Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports lens and it will be released on the market by the end of the year in Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts, while more versions will become available sometime in 2015.
[September 12, 03:56 PM EDT update]: Sigma has also launched a Contemporary version of this lens. The “C” version is not dust and splashproof as the Sports version, while bearing different optical construction.

Sigma is expected to show off multiple new lenses at Photokina 2014. The company has begun its series of official announcements
Perhaps the most important feature of the shooter is weathersealing. This is a sturdy lens with high resistance to dust and water, meaning that photographers will not have to worry about taking photos in harsh environmental conditions.
Another important addition is a new optical image stabilization system. The technology now includes an accelerometer, making the lens more stable and allowing users to focus on capturing high-quality, sharp photos.
Dimensions and internal design details regarding the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 lens
The new Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports lens features 24 elements in 16 groups. The product is equipped with special glass and coating, which are meant to reduce chromatic aberration, reflections, ghosting, and other optical flaws.
The elements in question are two FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) units and a trio of SLD (Special Low Dispersion) units. As a result, they will allow the company to meet the demands of professional photographers in terms of image quality.
Sigma’s new baby measures 290.2mm in length and 121mm in diameter. This is quite big and heavy, as the weight stands at 2,860 grams. Thankfully, the lens comes with a tripod mount, so you can set your kit on a tripod and you do not have to worry about holding it in place without extra help.
The filter thread of the optic measures 105mm and the minimum focusing distance stands at 2.6 meters.

Sigma has mentioned that the autofocus motor has been improved, too, making the focus more accurate and faster. However, the optic does support manual focus, allowing users to put a little more effort during photo shoots.
As expected, the lens is compatible with the USB Dock, meaning that users will be able to tweak the settings of their optic as well as to install firmware updates.
A price has not been set, but this baby should be expected to cost around $2,000. An exact release date is also unknown, but the company has confirmed that it is coming by the end of 2014 in Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts.
The Japan-based manufacturer will release this lens in Sony A-mount and other versions in 2015. Stay tuned, as more information is coming around Photokina 2014!
