Fujifilm has officially revealed the Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR lens, whose development has been confirmed on a previous occasion and which has been on-display at some digital imaging events, such as CP+ 2015.
This is one of Fujifilm’s telephoto lenses that has been added to the official X-mount roadmap back in 2014. Its development phase is now complete and the Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR lens is official ready to join the company’s line-up lenses for X-series mirrorless cameras.
The new optic is weather-resistant and it employs a novel linear motor that delivers fast, silent, and smooth autofocusing. It can do so even in harsh environmental conditions where temperatures are too low or too high for regular usage.
Fujifilm officializes 90mm f/2 weathersealed telephoto prime lens
The latest Fujinon lens is compatible with all X-mount mirrorless cameras. It will offer a full-frame focal length equivalent of about 137mm and it has been designed as a portrait lens that allows the photographer to keep a fair distance to their subjects.
Fuji says that this is a must-have optic for portraiture, but it will be great for action photography as well. It is a versatile optic with little to no vignetting, while delivering eye-catching bokeh effects.
One of the main selling points of this lens is its weathersealing. The Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR lens is dustproof and freezeproof, meaning that you can use it in the desert or in cold areas with temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius / 14 degrees Fahrenheit without a hitch alongside the X-T1 camera.
Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR lens offers new focusing motor with four magnets
Fujifilm has revealed that the internal configuration of the Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR lens comprises 11 elements in 8 groups with a 7-blade aperture. The optic includes three Extra-Low Dispersion ED elements in order to minimize chromatic aberration even at the brightest aperture.
Inside the lens, the Japanese manufacturer has added a new Quad Linear Motor consisting of four magnets providing higher torque. This way, it supports autofocus speeds as quick as 0.14 seconds, while offering accurate and silent focusing.
The optic comes with a minimum focusing distance of 60 centimeters / 23.62-inches, while aperture and focus rings are available for fully manual control. The Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR lens measures 105mm in length and 75mm in diameter, while weighing 540 grams / 1.19lbs. The filter thread measures 62mm.
Fujifilm has scheduled the lens for a July 2015 release date and a $949.95 price tag. You can pre-order it right now from Amazon.
