Sigma has decided to expand its Contemporary series with the new 30mm f/1.4 DC DN lens, a prime optic designed for mirrorless cameras with APS-C and Micro Four Thirds sensors.
The Global Vision line-up also includes Sigma’s Contemporary optics in addition to Sports and Art models. The latest addition to this series is a prime lens with a 30mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.4.
This new product has been developed to cover APS-C-format sensors and will be released in Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds versions. Sigma’s latest optic combines an amazing image quality with a lightweight and compact design. Nevertheless, it will be an affordable product that will bring new possibilities to mirrorless camera users, thanks to its bright aperture.
The company has usually released optics for MILCs with a maximum aperture of f/2.8, but now it has decided to go faster. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens is the chosen one and it comes with a really bright aperture.
When mounted on Sony E-mount cameras, it will offer a full-frame equivalent of 45mm. Additionally, when used in combination with a Micro Four Thirds camera, its full-frame equivalent will stand at 60mm.
The manufacturer says that this is the first affordable f/1.4 lens for mirrorless cameras, as the product will be released for a price of $339. The optic will begin shipping sometime around mid-March, Sigma confirmed

Its superior image quality is provided by an internal design that consists of nine elements in seven groups. The configuration includes an aspherical element as well as a double-sided apsherical element.
The autofocus system includes a stepping motor that delivers smooth, quick autofocusing even when recording videos. As expected, the focusing method is internal, therefore the front element does not move when performing such actions.
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens features a minimum focusing distance of 30 centimeters, whereas the maximum magnification rate stands at 0.14x.
This product measures about 73mm / 2.87 inches in length and 65mm / 2.56 inches in diameter. The filter thread has a size of 52mm and the total weight stands at 265 grams / 0.58 lbs.
