The rumor mill is now certain that Olympus and Sony will announce new Micro Four Thirds, respectively mirrorless cameras towards the end of April 2013.
During the past few weeks, both Olympus and Sony have been rumored to introduce new cameras this spring. The most “popular” month used by the inside sources was April. Well, “multiple trusted sources” have revealed that the two companies will “definitely” hold product launch events sometime in late April.
Olympus E-P5 Micro Four Thirds camera coming in late April
Despite the excitement in the hearts of the Olympus fans, the company will not introduce any new digital PEN-F or OM-D shooters. However, the manufacturer will announce the next-generation E-P camera, which will serve as a direct replacement for the PEN E-P3, which was launched in June 2011.
The new Olympus E-P5 will make an official appearance during an event that will take place in late April. The specs and price of the camera have been leaked before, but now other sources have confirmed them. It appears that the upcoming PEN E-P5 will not have a built-in viewfinder and will cost around $1,000.
Olympus’ next-generation Micro Four Thirds system will, however, support a 2.44 million-dot viewfinder manufactured by Epson, confirmed the source
Sony NEX-7n mirrorless shooter coming around the same date as Olympus’ MFT system
On the other hand, it seems like Sony will release a successor for the NEX-7 mirrorless camera. The new NEX-7n will also be announced in April with a brand new 24-megapixel APS-C sensor. The spec sheet will include an LCD touchscreen, 3.8 million-dot electronic viewfinder, and integrated WiFi.
The Sony NEX-7n will also employ new Hybrid Contrast and Phase Detection AF systems along with a redesigned Tri-Navi camera operation control. The NEX-7n will have a design very similar to the one found in the NEX-7, but the internals will be drastically changed, in order to avoid the heating issues of its predecessor.
As usual, this is nothing more than gossip, but there is not too much time left until we find out whether the rumors are true or not, because April is just a few weeks away.
