Samyang is rumored to join the party at Photokina 2014 with the introduction of the sought-after 50mm f/1.5 lens aimed at mirrorless cameras, including Micro Four Thirds models.
One of the companies which has revealed lots of lenses this year is Samyang. The third-party lens manufacturer grabbed a lot of attention this March, with the introduction of the 8mm f/2.8 UMC II, the 10mm f/2.8, and the 12mm f/2 NCS CS lenses.
Five more Samyang optics followed in April, including the 7.5mm T3.8, 10mm T3.1, and 12mm T2.2 cine lenses. The other two are the 35mm f/1.4 AE with electronic contacts for Canon cameras and the 300mm f/6.3 UMC CS Mirror lens for multiple camera systems.
According to people familiar with the matter, the South Korean manufacturer is planning the launch of a new lens. A 50mm f/1.5 model is rumored to be in the works and to be announced soon for mirrorless cameras.
Samyang 50mm f/1.5 lens coming soon to Micro Four Thirds and other mirrorless camera systems
The details are rather scarce at this point. However, multiple sources have confirmed that the Samyang 50mm f/1.5 lens is in development and is currently being readied for an official announcement event.
The optic will surely be aimed at Micro Four Thirds cameras. Nevertheless, other mirrorless camera systems are in contention, too, including Sony E-mount (only for shooters with APS-C-sized image sensors) and Fujifilm X-mount.
Samsung 50mm f/1.5 lens will allegedly provide a good image quality, although it will not force buyers to break the bank. This is similar to the rest of Samyang products, which are close to perfect when it comes down to the price per quality ratio.
This could be the Samyang 50mm cine lens that users have been waiting for a long time
Judging by the aperture of the lens, we may be facing a cine lens designed for videographers. The company’s fans have been asking for such optic for many months, if not years.
If the rumors are true, then Samyang would have fulfilled a long-standing request, therefore it would definitely grow even further in the eyes of its customers.
It is worth pointing out that this is all based on rumor and speculation. This means that the Samyang 50mm f/1.5 lens might not be released anytime soon.
Still, the information is coming from trusted sources, which is usually a sign that gossip talks will turn into a reality. The alleged announcement date could be set for the Photokina 2014, so stay tuned!
