Ricoh will announce a new compact camera along with a 24-70mm f/2.8 standard zoom lens for Pentax K-mount DSLRs.
Digital imaging fans are waiting to see the Pentax full-frame camera in action. However, the DSLR has been delayed until next year, so Ricoh is keeping photographers busy with different announcements.
A trusted source has revealed details and photos of two upcoming Ricoh products. One of them consists of the WG-40 / WG-40W compact camera series, while the other one is a Pentax-branded 24-70mm f/2.8 lens for K-mount cameras.
Both products are said to be introduced soon, most likely on September 25, so here is what we have learned about the duo before the official launch event!
HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR lens to be revealed by Ricoh this month
The first product is the HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR lens. This optic will be capable of covering full-frame sensors, meaning that it will be perfect for the upcoming full-frame K-mount DSLR.
Its specs list, photo, and price details have all been leaked. According to the source, this lens will feature 17 elements in 12 groups including three Extra Low Dispersion elements, three aspherical elements, and one anomalous dispersion aspherical element.
The lens will feature HD coating and will be weathersealed, while the autofocus technology will be powered by a Supersonic Drive Motor. As expected, a Quick-Shift Focus button will be available on the lens, so users can switch to manual focusing as soon as the AF locks onto the subject.
The HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR lens will have a minimum focusing distance of 38 centimeters and a maximum magnification of 0.20x. It will measure 88.5mm in diameter, while its filter thread will be sized at 82mm.
Ricoh will release the lens in mid-October for a price somewhere around the $1,900 mark. The optic will have an acceptable size as it will measure 109.5mm in length and will weigh about 787 grams without its hood.
Ricoh WG-40 and WG-40W compact cameras will become official in the near future, too
On the other hand, there is the WG-30 / WG-30W replacement. Ricoh is expected to launch the WG-40 and WG-40W cameras along with the HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR lens.
Ricoh’s upcoming devices will be almost identical, the only difference consisting of the fact that the W-designated model will feature built-in WiFi, just like in the WG-30 / WG-30W case.
The cameras will be waterproof to depths down to 14 meters and will handle the shock of a 1.6-meter drop. It will have an improved white balance system and a new underwater mode, while the remainder of the Ricoh WG-40 / WG-40W specs will be similar to the ones found in the previous generation.
The WG-40 will be released in black and yellow colors, whereas the WG-40W will become available in blue and white flavors. As stated above, the official announcement event is taking place soon, so expect to hear more on this as of September 25.
