Fujifilm will reveal the XF 35mm f/2 R WR prime lens and the XF 1.4x TC WR teleconverter soon, as both their specs and photos have just been leaked.
It used to be really active, but things changed in recent times. Fujifilm is no longer launching products like crazy, instead choosing to only release the right devices at the right time.
Two Fuji-branded products have been leaked online along with their specifications. We are talking about two optics which have had their development confirmed sometime ago: XF 35mm f/2 R WR prime lens and XF 1.4x TC WR teleconverter. Such leaks are usually occurring before launch events, so this pair will become official in the near future.
Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2 R WR lens shows up online before its launch
Fujifilm will release a weathersealed 35mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/2 for X-mount mirrorless cameras. The optic will have a minimum aperture of f/16, courtesy of 9-bladed circular diaphragm.
The product will have an internal configuration consisting of nine elements in six groups. Two out of nine elements will be aspherical in order to cut down optical flaws and to increase image quality, the source revealed.
The minimum focusing distance of the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2 R WR lens will stand at 35 centimeters. The AF system consists of a stepping motor and it is based on an inner focusing mechanism, which means that its front element remains in place when focusing.
Being a weathersealed product, it will be resistant to water droplets, dust, and -10 degrees Celsius / 14 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures. The lens will be made out of metal and will be released in Black and Silver colors as of mid-November 2015.
Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2 R WR lens measures about 46mm in length and 60mm in diameter. It weighs 170 grams, so it will be a very small product, which comes in handy in the mirrorless world. Anyway, when mounted on X-mount shooters, it will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of about 52.5mm.
Fujifilm XF 1.4x TC WR teleconverter leaked on the web, too
The Fujifilm XF 1.4x TC WR teleconverter will be compatible only with a few X-mount lenses. It will extend the focal length of supported XF-series lens by 1.4x, which means that a 35mm lens could potentially offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of approximately 74mm (35 x 1.5 x 1.4 = 73.5).
Photographers have often bemoaned the lack of choices when it comes to telephoto lenses for Fuji X-mount cameras. However, the Japan-based company has tried to solve this problem and, among others, a 100-400mm lens will most likely be released in 2016.
Beside the upcoming 100-400mm lens, the teleconverter will only support the 50-140mm lens, which has been unveiled at Photokina 2014.
Either way, the weathersealed XF 1.4x TC WR teleconverter is a temporary, but nice solution and it could be a hit among X-series fans. Stay tuned to our website for the official announcement!
