After the recent mention of the Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens, the rumor mill is back with the price and announcement date details of the upcoming super-telephoto zoom lens.
A patent for an interesting telephoto zoom lens was uncovered in December 2015. It described an optic with a focal range between 200 and 600mm along with built-in image stabilization and a maximum aperture of f/4.5-5.6, depending on the selected focal length.
The product has made its way back into the rumor mill a few days ago, when we reported on Camyx that the lens will be announced as well as released on the market by the end of 2016.
Insiders have just revealed more details about the optic and it seems like it will be unveiled this summer, right before the Photokina 2016 event, and will become available for a lower price than the existing EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens, as speculated.
Canon’s next super-telephoto zoom optic is coming this summer
Canon will reportedly unveil its new super-telephoto zoom lens in August 2016. This means that the product is likely coming in anticipation of Photokina 2016, which opens its doors in September in Cologne, Germany.
Digital camera and lens manufacturers are known for launching new equipment shortly before the start of major shows. This also happened at the 2014 edition of Photokina and it will definitely happen in 2016.
The EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens is an important product for the Japanese company, so it would make sense to be present at the biggest digital imaging event in the world. All signs are pointing towards an August unveiling, but do not take it for granted, as there is still a lot of time until then.
Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens price revealed, too
As for the price of this super-telephoto zoom optic, it seems like Canon will sell it for a lower amount than the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens
We were speculating this in our previous article, so the information does not come as a surprise. According to the rumor mill, the Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens price will stand at $1,700.
This also means that the optic will be cheaper than the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sport lens, that costs around $1,800.
In addition to the EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS super-telephoto zoom optic, Canon will allegedly reveal a new converter just for this product. Stay tuned for further information!
