The first specs of the recently-rumored Canon EOS M5 have been leaked online, ahead of the mirrorless camera’s official announcement, which is bound to occur ahead of the Photokina 2016 event.
Canon will announce a new mirrorless camera sometime in 2016. In a previous article we have established that it will replace the EOS M3, albeit being placed higher up the market.
Although the announcement event was supposed to occur sometime later this year, it seems like the so-called EOS M5 will be revealed sooner. Trusted sources are reporting that the device is poised to make an official cameo before Photokina 2016, whilst leaking some of its specifications.
First Canon EOS M5 specs show up online
The new stuff, compared to the EOS M3, does not begin with the image sensor. The company will add a 24.2-megapixel APS-C unit into the upcoming MILC, which is the same or a slightly modified version of EOS M3’s sensor. Such sensor has already been added into the EOS 750D / 760D and 80D DSLRs.
The move to an upper step on the market might be due to the viewfinder. There will be an integrated electronic viewfinder, becoming a first for Canon’s EOS M series. Moreover, contrary to previous reports, the style of the device will change, as it will receive a classic look.
It appears that the design will resemble the one of Fujifilm and Olympus mirrorless cameras. Nevertheless, the more important thing is the fact that the Canon EOS M specs list will include a new autofocus system.
There are no details regarding the AF system, but, as usual, we are suspecting that will be faster and more accurate, which will hopefully be a lot better than the current offering.
Canon will surely launch the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens, too
Beside the Canon EOS M5 specs, the source has mentioned that the Japan-based company will also introduce a new lens. As stated recently, the lens will consist of an EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM unit.
The two might be released as a bundle, albeit they will definitely be available as separate purchases, too. Either way, the announcement event will occur ahead of Photokina 2016. The most likely date is September 15, but it might happen one day before or after that.
If this turns out to be real, then we will definitely see more specs leaked on the web along with the mirrorless cameras’ specifications, so stay tuned to Camyx for them!
