Nikon has registered a new camera in Indonesia and it seems like the device is a DSLR made in Thailand that will be unveiled in the early stages of 2017.
Following a lackluster second half of 2016, Nikon will pick up the pace in the first half of 2017. The company will definitely introduce a new DSLR in the near future, as touted by multiple sources, and it seems like the first steps have been made: an unannounced shooter has recently been registered on Postel’s website, the Indonesian agency where manufacturers must register their products before launching them on the market. Here is what we can expect in the near future from Nikon!
Nikon N1610 camera registered in Indonesia
The first major event of 2017 will be the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is all based on speculation, but the Japanese company introduced both the D5 and D500 at CES 2016, so it would make sense to launch another big-name DSLR at CES 2017.
We have to point out the fact that some sources are claiming that Nikon fans could be in for a disappointment at next year’s CES, as the company might only announce the US availability of the D5600 in early January.
Still, the fact that the codenamed N1610 has just been registered in Indonesia is a glimmer of hope for a more positive outcome. The digital camera was registered on December 15. The listing says that it will be manufactured in Thailand, home of Nikon’s DSLRs, so this is why we have few doubts regarding its type.
Some of Nikon’s plans for 2017
It will be a busy year for the Japan-based manufacturer. Nikon will surely reveal a new 1-series mirrorless camera in 2017. In addition to that, the company might launch a full-frame or medium-format MILC.
Nikon is celebrating 100 year of existence in 2017 and we will likely see a Mark II version of Df. It is unlikely that it will be called Df Mark II, but we will refer to it this way for the time being.
Although the D610, D750, and D810 all need to be replaced, we are going to make a bold claim and state that only two replacements are coming in 2017. As far as speculation goes, we can say that the N1610 could be the D620 or D650 and it is coming during the first half of 2017, while the second unit will be the D820 or D850 and will be released in the second part of 2017.
These are enough rumors for one post, but Nikon is keeping everything as secret as possible, meaning that this is the best to come through the grapevine. Stay tuned for more details!
